The annual Noodles N’ Notes jazz concert and dinner will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in the Commons. The event will feature performances from the high school jazz bands, feeder middle school jazz bands, and plenty of food.
“The doors open at 6 o’clock, and the music begins at 6:30,” Blake Larsen, 11, said.
Noodles N’ Notes is widely regarded as an enjoyable evening that highlights both new and returning jazz performers.
“It’s a fantastic musical experience,” Larsen said. “You get to listen to and enjoy music from all of the jazz ensembles at Braswell, along with the Cheek, Navo, and Rodriguez middle school jazz ensembles, while enjoying a luxurious meal.”
Caleb Seay-Gutierrez, a senior trumpet player, has performed in Noodles N’ Notes for all four years. He shared the source of his enthusiasm.
“I’m super excited for it because we get to eat lots of delicious food and listen to some good jazz,” Seay-Gutierrez said.
Unlike other sit-down concerts, this jazz event is more energetic, with the audience encouraged to applaud and dance while enjoying the music.
“It is a jazz concert featuring all of the high school legacy jazz ensembles, as well as each of the middle school jazz ensembles in the Braswell zone,” Zane Decker, 11, said. “Along with that, there will be food, so please come out and enjoy.”
Decker reflected on past experiences and what stood out the most.
“My favorite moment last year was definitely listening to the middle schoolers and hearing some of them,” Decker said. “I was so impressed by how well some of them played, and it’s exciting to see the future of the Braswell Legacy Jazz Ensembles.”
The concert has fostered many positive experiences, including more students becoming interested in jazz and its offerings.
“I am most excited for, of course, the food,” Decker said. “But besides the food, I’m super excited for the same thing that hooked me last year: seeing the future of the Braswell Legacy Jazz Ensembles in the middle schools. I’m so excited to see how they play, what they sound like, and cheer them on.”
It’s rare for a concert to allow performers to also sit back and listen to others, cheering them on as the past performers were cheered.
“Anybody can go. I encourage everyone who can and is willing to attend to please come to this concert. It’s going to be amazing,” Decker said.
