The Bengal Beat Online News & Newspaper

 

The Bengal Beat, a Ray E. Braswell High School Student Publication, is the official student news site and newspaper of Ray E. Braswell High School. Editorials, cartoons and advertising content are not endorsements of the staff, adviser, or administration.

The Bengal Beat is a member of the Interscholastic League Press Conference, a division of the University Interscholastic League, the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists and the National Scholastic Press Association.

The Ambush Yearbook

The Ambush, a Ray E. Braswell High School Student Publication, is the official student yearbook of Ray E. Braswell High School.

The Ambush is a member of the Interscholastic League Press Conference, a division of the University Interscholastic League, the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists and the National Scholastic Press Association.

BHS Now Broadcast

BHS Now, a Ray E. Braswell High School Student Media program, is the official student broadcast program of Ray E. Braswell High School. Opinions and editorials are not endorsements of the staff, adviser, or administration.

BHS Now is a member of the Interscholastic League Press Conference, a division of the University Interscholastic League, the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists and the National Scholastic Press Association.

Bengal Sports Network

Bengal Sports Network, a Ray E. Braswell High School Student Media program, is the official student sports livestream program of Ray E. Braswell High School, it works directly with BHS Now. Follow the Bengal Sports Network on all social media sites @bengalsportsnetwork and view sports scores/schedules online at https://www.braswellmedia.org/sportscenter.

 

The Bengal Beat News Staff Policies

Editorial Policy

The editorial board is the decision-making group for braswellmedia.org, The Bengal Beat Newspaper and The Bengal Beat Online. The editorial board consists of the student leadership of the publications. The board decides on what will be published as well publishing editorials that are the voice of The Bengal Beat. Editorials do not reflect the opinions of individual students, teachers or administration. All Braswell Student Media publications (The Bengal Beat News, The Bengal Beat Newspaper, The Ambush Yearbook, BHS Now Broadcast, and all past and future media/publication outlets with Braswell Student Media are public forums for student expression.

Letters To The Editor

The Bengal Beat News will accept letters to the editor in A209 or at [email protected]. Before the letter is published, we will need to verify the writer’s identity. Letters may not exceed a length of 350 words. We will not publish letters that are libelous, obscene or that may cause a veritable disruption of the education process at Ray Braswell High School. Letters must be signed. Anonymous letters will be discarded.

Opinions expressed in the publications do not express the staff ’s endorsement of the products or services. The Bengal Beat News (print/online), The Ambush Yearbook and BHS Now Broadcast programs are members of NSPA and ILPC. Members of all three staffs are eligible to be inducted into the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists, and the adviser of the program is a member of ATPI, JEA, and TAJE.

Staff Ethics Statement

We will not publish content that is libelous, obscene, promotes illegal activities or that may cause a veritable disruption of the education process at Ray Braswell High School. All publications staff members are responsible for their content and will respect copyright laws. If students are unsure about what is appropriate behavior, they should refer to the Society of Professional Journalism’s Code of Ethics. Any member of the staff who is found to have plagiarized material or sought to deceive the publication and/or its audience may be dismissed from the staff and referred to administration.

Obituary Policy

In the case of death or deaths of a current student or staff member, if The Bengal Beat News editorial board decides to cover it, they will treat the subject matter in a tasteful manner by allowing the family to submit an obituary for the paper/website. Name, date of birth, activities and any other pertinent information will be provided. Details on the manner of death will be communicated at the discretion of the editorial board and family.

Take Down Policy

Braswell Student Media publications staffs work hard to have no errors in their work, however, if errors are discovered, the staff will post a retraction on braswellmedia.org and/or update the online story with an editor’s note.

Once a story has been posted on online platforms, it may not be removed or deleted. An exception may be made in the case of a compelling journalistic reason, such as a violation of standard journalistic ethics. Factual errors are not cause for deletion of a story but will compel the staff to make corrections and include an editor’s note to reflect the change from a previous version.

Comment Policy

The Bengal Beat News staff and/or adviser monitors the comments written on its site and reserves the right to delete any comments found to be personal attacks, spam, in poor taste, libelous, obscene, promoting illegal activities or that may cause a veritable disruption of the education process at Ray Braswell High School. They also reserve the right to delete comments that do not pertain to the discussion at hand.

Social Media Policy

Braswell publications staffs are affiliated with the @BraswellMedia handles on social media, including Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and TikTok. We strive to ensure all information published is accurate. Mistakes and inaccuracies published in any medium will be corrected as soon as possible. Staff will not use the @BraswellMedia platforms for their own use, and they will not follow students on Braswell Student Media accounts.
