Since fall started, almost everybody has been talking about the defining holiday of the season: Halloween. What better way to start off a new spooky season than with the best movies fit for all your creepy crawly needs?
Zombieland
Set after the zombie apocalypse, four strangers band together to see if they can make it to a supposed safe house in Los Angeles. With rules from Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) and zombie-killing skills from Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), the group does their best to make it to California alive and kicking. With a mixture of suspense, horror, comedy, and an all-star cast, “Zombieland” is the perfect Halloween movie.
Poltergeist
The 1982 film focuses on your average everyday family — but something’s gone wrong. Their youngest daughter Carol Ann begins to communicate with something through the TV set. Things escalate quickly after that, leading the Freeling family to find out the horrifying truth of their home. With that oh-so-classic line, “They’re here,” there’s no way you should miss out on this classic Halloween movie.
Evil Dead II
While “Evil Dead II” is a remake of the original — but with a bigger budget — it’s still one of the best horror films to this day. The film focuses on Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) and his girlfriend, Linda. They want to spend a quiet weekend in a secluded cabin in the woods, but their plans are quickly changed when Linda becomes possessed. Ash plays a tape filled with voices reciting the Book of the Dead and soon realizes his mistake. The film makes for the perfect Halloween movie in that it combines both horror and comedy to allow for a breather in-between the scares.
Lost Boys
Sam (Corey Haim), his older brother, Michael (Jason Patric), and their mother move to a small town in California also known as the “Murder Capital of the World.” They think of the spray-painted words as a joke, but soon come to realize that they are pretty accurate. Michael falls for a girl who’s wrapped up in a gang — a vampire gang, that is. When head vampire, David (Kiefer Sutherland) enthralls Michael in his world, Sam has no choice but to consult local comic book nerds, the Frogger brothers, for help. With the help of his newfound friends, Sam must face David and the other vampires in order to save his brother.
Drag Me to Hell
Sam Raimi’s horror-comedy film “Drag Me to Hell” features everything people love about horror films and more. Christine Brown — your average girl-next-door — turns away an elderly woman at work in order to gain a promotion.Her actions cause her to become cursed and she has to try to save her soul from eternal damnation. With a 92-percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is beloved by those who have seen Raimi’s previous work (particularly “The Evil Dead”). Make a visit to “Hell” on Halloween.
