From the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), award-winning director John Crowley sends a golden thread running through screens this fall; a lens that begins to magnify the beauty of Donna Tartt’s globally acclaimed 2013 novel.
The film features a sympathetic cast led by romance lead Ansel Elgort from The Fault in Our Stars as Theodore Decker, and Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman of Big Little Lies as Mrs. Barbour.
Young Theodore Decker, played by Oakes Fegely of Pete’s Dragon, was 13 years old when his mother was tragically lost in the terrorist bombing of the famous Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York City. The devastation starts to change his life, eight years later to be exact, as he continues to live in a riveting excursion of grief and guilt, rekindling and repossession, and the hardest of all … love. Through it all, he holds onto and cherishes a visible piece of wish and daydream from the hardship of that fateful day … an oil painting, recovered from the ash, of a little yellow bird chained on its perch. The Goldfinch.
The film also stars Welsh stage actor Aneurin Barnard of Dunkirk as Boris, famous genuine Canadian actor Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things and IT as young Boris, along with notable horror actress Willa Fitzgerald of Scream: the T.V series as Kitsy, Sarah Paulson of Bird Box as Xandra, Luke Wilson of Charlie’s Angels as Charlie, and Emmy-winning Jeffery Wright of The Hunger Games Franchise as Hobie.
The Goldfinch brings the epitome of great sorrow and dread through the hardest journey of beginning to find yourself, as well as caring too much for things that can bring you down.
