Cartoonist and illustrator for the Oxford University Press, artist Charlie Mackesy, has brought tears to many eyes with his charming outlook of a literary graphic novel, released Oct. 21, 2019, on the world not often visualized, as it is full of beauty and can really get readers thinking.
The story follows the lives of four friends, all representing different parts of one person. Beginning with a curious, yet young boy who, seemingly lost in his world, meets enthusiastic individuals alongside his disabled path: a seemingly greedy mole, a fox who has been hurt so much throughout life he gave it away, and a gracious to gallant horse. Each is taught an important lesson on life in that no matter how far, small, weak and hurt one may be, it is still possible to make a huge difference in anyone seeking even the tiniest amount of closure and love.
This is likely to be one of the best literary graphic novels read this year, or at all, as it reminds readers that personal struggles are not worth struggling over. We are all loved, our differences make us who we are, and no one has to be perfect.
Recommended for all readers out there who are in times of need and distress. Never stop believing ‘the show must go on’ because the story will always live on …
