Wingard, the defending state champion, took gold in the Class 6A Region I girls race, while Acuna, who finished sixth at state last year, placed fifth in the boys’ race. Newberry earned the bronze medal in the same competition.
All three runners will compete at the state meet in Round Rock on Friday, Nov. 1.
The cross country state meet will be livestreamed on the NFHS Network.
