For the first time in program history, the Braswell boys water polo team claimed the district championship title, defeating some of the toughest competition in Denton ISD.
The Bengals clinched the crown in a hard-fought match against Guyer, who entered the season undefeated in district play for five years until facing Braswell this year – losing to the Bengals twice this season. The victory was not only a statement win but also a historic moment for the program, which continues to grow in talent and recognition.
Throughout district competition, Braswell battled against Denton High, Ryan High, and powerhouse Guyer. While the Wildcats had long dominated the pool, this year the Bengals turned the tide, showing resilience, teamwork, and relentless defense.
“Our boys made history for Braswell by earning the district champions title,” Head Water Polo Coach Maegan Merriman said. “I couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and fight to be the best.”
The championship solidifies Braswell as the top boys water polo team in Denton ISD, a remarkable achievement considering the program’s young history. With momentum on their side, the Bengals now look ahead to postseason play with confidence.
Braswell’s district title marks a turning point for boys water polo in the area, proving the Bengals are ready to make waves not only in district but also in the playoffs ahead.
The boys water polo team will take on Flower Mound at 4 p.m. and the girls water polo team will take on Marcus at 5 p.m. at Lewisville ISD West Side Aquatic Center (1750 Duncan Ln Lewisville, TX)
