Denton ISD names High School #5, New Braswell zone CTE center after longtime board members

The district’s fifth comprehensive high school will be called Mia Price High School, while the new career and technical education facility will be named the Jim Alexander Advanced Technology Center.

Denton Independent School District has announced the names of two upcoming campuses currently under construction. The district’s fifth comprehensive high school will be called Mia Price High School, while the new career and technical education facility will be named the Jim Alexander Advanced Technology Center.

Both campuses honor longtime members of the Denton ISD Board of Trustees who played significant roles in the district’s growth.

Mia Price served on the Denton ISD board for more than 20 years. During her time as a trustee, she advocated for students and worked to expand educational opportunities across the district. The naming of the new high school recognizes her decades of service and leadership.

The district’s second career and technical education facility will honor Jim Alexander, who served 30 years as a Denton ISD trustee. Alexander also served on the Denton City Council and worked as a professor at Texas Woman’s University.

“Mia Price and Dr. Jim Alexander gave decades of their lives to the students and families of Denton ISD,” said Dr. O’Bara, Superintendent of Denton ISD, in a post on the district website. “Their leadership, vision, and deep love for this community helped build the strong foundation our district stands on today. It is only fitting that these facilities, spaces where the next generation of students will learn, grow, and pursue their dreams, carry the names of two individuals who devoted so much to making those dreams possible.”

District leaders said both individuals helped shape the direction of Denton ISD through their long-term commitment to public education.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am honored to officially name these facilities after two extraordinary public servants,” said Barbara Burns, Board President of Denton ISD. “Mia Price’s tireless advocacy for students and Dr. Jim Alexander’s steadfast dedication to preparing young people for the future embody the very best of what Denton ISD represents. These names will serve as a daily reminder to our students and staff of the power of committed, compassionate leadership.”

The new campuses are part of projects funded by the district’s 2023 voter-approved bond program. District officials say the facilities represent continued growth in the area as enrollment increases in the Braswell zone.

School officials say naming the campuses after Price and Alexander recognizes their lasting impact on the district and the Denton community.

The new comprehensive high school #5 and new advanced technology center are currently being constructed in the town of Cross Roads located off of Naylor road behind the CVS, McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, Rosa’s Cafe and more.
