The countdown to graduation has officially begun for the Class of 2026 at Braswell High School as students prepare for their final exams, senior traditions and commencement ceremonies later this month.
In a message to seniors and families, Principal DeCorian Hailey encouraged students to “finish strong” and continue representing the school’s values of “Be Kind. Be Respectful. Be Great.”
“You have built something special,” Hailey said in the newsletter. “These final days matter. They reflect your discipline, your pride, and the legacy you leave behind.”
Senior final exams begin May 11, with all exams expected to be completed by May 15. Seniors who qualify for exemptions may begin returning district-issued Chromebooks and chargers starting May 11 in the HUB. The final deadline to return devices is May 19.
Students are also reminded to clear outstanding fees and cafeteria balances before graduation. According to the school administration, diplomas will only be available at graduation for students who complete payments by 9 a.m. on May 22.
One of the most anticipated traditions of the year, the Senior Walk, will take place May 18. During the event, graduating seniors will wear their caps and gowns while walking through the halls of their former elementary and middle schools, greeted by former teachers and younger students. After they walk through their elementary and middle school, they will walk the halls of BHS.
Mandatory graduation practice will also take place before commencement ceremonies. Seniors participating in graduation are required to attend practice sessions in the main gym beginning at 9 a.m. Students will rehearse lineup procedures, seating and the graduation process.
Graduation for the Class of 2026 is scheduled for May 22 at 3 p.m. at the UNT Coliseum. Graduates must arrive by 2 p.m., and guests will not need tickets to attend. For more information on graduation, you can learn more at the district’s graduation webpage. Graduation is hosted by the University of North Texas at “The Super Pit” Coliseum. School officials also shared several reminders about security procedures and graduation attire. Graduates may not bring bags or cell phones into the venue, caps may not be decorated and only approved cords and stoles will be allowed.
As the year comes to a close, Braswell administrators say they are excited to celebrate the accomplishments and legacy of the graduating class.
“We are proud of you,” Hailey said. “We believe in you. And we are excited to celebrate you.”
