We’re growing and we need you! If you have an interest in writing, sports, video, photography, design, marketing, computers or just having fun – take a journalism class. We’re looking for photographers, writers, videographers, sports writers and more! Join the winning team. Fill out the application below! Reach out to Mr. Carr with questions!

Did you know?

  • Most journalism students are involved in other sports or activities. We have a student from most sports teams, band, choir, theatre, AFJROTC and more.
  • Journalism/Student Media students earn college scholarships from UIL.
  • Over 800 people purchase our yearbook, The Ambush, each year. And that number has increased every year since we’ve opened.
  • That our yearbook has increased its yearbook page count every year since 2018. We’re sitting at 223 pages right now. We had 160 pages back in 2020.
  • Our student publications enter competitions and have been improving. We also get the opportunity to visit other states like Pennsylvania, California, and New York – depending on the year, of course.
  • Braswell Student Media grads have gone on to attend the University of North Texas Frank W. and Mayborn School of Journalism, Texas A&M College of Communications, University of Arkansas, and University of Missouri.

Classes Offered ( No Application Needed):

  • Journalism I
  • Photojournalism

Classes offered that require an application:

  • Advanced Broadcast Journalism I, II, & III
  • Advanced Journalism: News I, II, & III
  • Advanced Journalism: Yearbook I, II, & III

Application Process

 

Applications for currently-enrolled Braswell students is Friday, March 22, 2024.

Applications for incoming freshmen (current 8th graders) are due by Wednesday, March 27, 2024)
