The first Buff Puff tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, at 4:45 p.m. in the main gym. The event will feature both junior and senior teams.
A Buff Puff tournament is similar to a Powder Puff game—two teams of boys play volleyball while girls coach from the sidelines. All teams are competing for a spot in the Grand Championship Match, which will determine the overall winner.
“We decided to host the Buff Puff tournament for a number of reasons,” volleyball coach Kenzi Gomez said. “We thought this would be a good way to engage the student body in both the sport and our program. We also wanted to boost morale and team spirit. Cheering on your teammates as they compete for a championship is a fun and engaging way to do that.”
The game is not only a fun experience for players and spectators, but it also helps support the volleyball program.
“The focus of the fundraiser is to raise funds for our program to ensure a successful 2025 volleyball season,” Gomez said.
The Buff Puff tournament is being described as a healthy and fun rivalry between classes.
“The tournament will entail two separate brackets—one junior and one senior,” Gomez said. “The winners of each will play for the grand championship.”
While Powder Puff is already a school tradition, the Buff Puff tournament is being hosted for the first time this year.
“We are hoping that the Buff Puff tournament will become an annual tradition here at Braswell,” Gomez said. “That is why we are advertising it as the ‘First Annual Buff Puff Tournament.’”
Students are still able—and encouraged—to sign up.
“We have room for one more senior team, up to 10 players,” Gomez said. “To sign up, it’s a $10 fee, and you must email me at [email protected] to register.”
Tickets will be sold during all lunches leading up to the tournament. They are $2 during lunch and $3 at the gate.
