Braswell placed in 5-6A with familiar rivalries, new opponents

Braswell renews rivalry with Little Elm and Guyer

Staff Report

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced its annual two-year realignment for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years Thurs. Feb. 1. Braswell, Guyer, and Little Elm got to keep their spots in district 5-6A, gained Coppell and Lewisville ISD, while Allen, McKinney ISD and Prosper ISD schools transferred out.

“It’s going to be another extremely competitive district with the addition of Lewisville ISD schools and Coppell,” Braswell head football coach and athletic director Kent Laster said. “Coppell was a very good team, I believe they went undefeated in their district and they won their first playoff game against our district. They are very competitive, Lewisville as well. All of the others are very strong and competitive as well. Just like the one we had last realignment.”

Joining Braswell in District 5 will be Coppell, Denton Guyer, Lewisville, Lewisville Flower Mound, Lewisville Hebron, Lewisville Marcus and Little Elm.

“No matter what district [Guyer] is in they are going to be at the top,” Laster said. “They are very well coached and they have extremely good athletes. Guyer is always going to be in the mix, and a team that people are going to have to deal with and they are formidable. Basically what they’ve done for quite a while and they’ve been very successful. We think very highly of them and their coaching staff.”

Allen, McKinney, McKinney Boyd, Prosper, and Prosper Rock Hill left district 5 for district 6 and now compete against Plano, Plano East, Plano West and Princeton.
