Bengal Bios: For Powell, art is everything
If anyone had to describe Kylei Powell, 16, in one word it would be “artsy.”
“Sometimes I can spend up to an hour drawing, and I can [also] spend all day drawing,” the Braswell junior said. “It just depends on the day.”
One of the reasons Powell got into art was her mother.
Teresa Ellison, 40, is an artistic woman who has a love for the arts. Powell is the same, with interests in literature and art.
“I know this is super cliche, but I am literally exactly my mom,” she said. “Even though she freaks me out sometimes, we are legit the same person.”
All artistic people have their creative slumps, and different people describe it in different ways. Powell describes her slumps as “a drain in my own color as a person.” Even with a lack of inspiration, she can always go to what is reliable: a book.
“I just keep calm,” she said, “and to think, I curl up in a ball with something warm to drink and a book on a rainy day.”
