Wisconsin Native Makes Her Mark

The future of Volleyball looks very bright with new competitor Maya Omar (sophomore) ready to help take the team to the next level.

The rising star from Eau Claire, Wis. has a goal of playing volleyball on the west coast and graduating at the top of her class. She also plans to be an anesthesiologist somewhere in that same area

“I always want to make sure I stay focused but at the same time I want to enjoy my high school days,” Omar said.

Even though Omar is only a sophomore, she has made the most of her high school experience. So far her most memorable high school moment has been the homecoming football game against Frisco ISD last year. Since Omar’s senior goal is to graduate at the top of her class (2023), grades are very important to her.

“My parents preach grades, they would never let me have anything below a 75,” Omar said.

As well, Omar’s game day meals are also very important to her and mainly consists of a Greek salad and a strawberry smoothie.

“I go crazy over my meals, I can never go 100 percent if I don’t have my meal,” Omar said.

“I can, I will” is the mantra Omar said she lives by as the late Kobe Bryant has been a  big inspiration to her in many ways.

All of Omar’s inspiring quotes come from Bryant, with her gameday playlist consisting of a lot of hip hop/rap. Her favorites are Grammy nominated rappers such as Lil Baby and songwriter Summer Walker.

“They give me a lot of confidence,” Omar said. “If I didn’t have my music before the game I wouldn’t play the same.”

As one of the few sophomores on Varsity, this Wisconsin native is excited about the future of the program and is ready to fill her role by helping her teammates to the next level.
