Class of 2026,
You’ve finally arrived at the day that once felt impossibly far away: graduation.
When you first walked the halls of Braswell, you were uncertain, unsure, maybe a little lost.
But now, here you are, a little more certain, a little more sure, and a little less lost.
There were days you wondered if you would make it.
Long nights of studying.
Last-minute projects held together with caffeine and willpower. Notes written in three different colors (because somehow that was going to save your grade). Group chats complaining about teachers you were convinced wanted to destroy you.
There were early morning practices. Late night practices. Weekend practices…Bus rides. Uniforms. Blisters. Ice packs. Repeated. And repeated again.
But the unexpected friends, the inside jokes, the teachers who showed they cared…these somehow got you through…
So many wins and losses…
1378 days of them to be exact.
All of these days have brought you to this moment, to this version of yourself.
I’ve watched this class show resilience, kindness, humor, grit, creativity, and an impressive ability to function on very little sleep—you might want to fix that last one! Lol
But these are the moments of life.
Some of you found your confidence here.
Some found your people.
Some found your voice.
And some of you are still figuring it out — and that’s okay too.
All these moments, the struggles maybe even more than the joys, have made you who you are.
One day, years from now, you’ll look back and realize these hallways held versions of you that were still becoming. A you in process. Be grateful to that version of yourself. They got you here.
Embrace the moments. All of them: The risk, the uncertainty. Even the failure.
It won’t go as planned. It never does. But that’s okay. Adjust. Pivot. Learn.
And keep going. That’s the key. Always keep going.
Wherever life takes you next, remember this: you have already survived hard things. You have transformed yourself before. You are far more capable than you realize.
With love,
Heather Alagood
